Overview

Students gain expertise and develop research skills in a variety of areas: France, Quebec and French-Canadian Literatures, Caribbean and African Literatures, European literature and culture and Middle Eastern perspectives on Europe, discourses on identity, and pedagogical practices.

In the Integrated Humanities M.A., you will develop a program of study customized to your research interests by selecting one of three flexible fields of study:

Art History: Theory and Practice
European Studies
French Studies
Francophone Studies and Transcultural Europe
Latin American and Caribbean Studies

The program also offers a dual degree pathway between the MA in Integrated Humanities at the University of Guelph and the MA in Linguistics and Literary Studies at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

General requirements

Candidates for admission must hold a BA in an honours program or equivalent from a recognized university with a grade average of at least B+ in the work of their last four semesters or last two undergraduate years (full-time equivalent).
A reading competence in a European language in addition to English is recommended for the European Studies field, while French proficiency is required for the French Studies and Francophone Studies and Transcultural Europe fields. The following documents must accompany your request for admission:

A one-page statement of research (letter of intent) outlining your reasons for applying to the program
A sample of writing that displays your aptitude for research and analytical thinking (approx. 2500 words)
