Overview

The Mental Health Nursing (with NMC Registration) programme offered by Middlesex University is designed for students who already have an UG Degree and are looking to gain an NMC registered qualification in Mental Health Nursing.

Developed in partnership with our NHS trust partners, you will learn the essential nursing skills needed to provide compassionate and effective care for people with mental health issues.

We offer you exceptional support as you study for this challenging and fulfilling role. We have excellent teaching staff, state-of-the-art facilities and placements at London's leading hospitals.

Career Paths

Mental Health Nursing is a flexible and varied career with excellent prospects. Most of our students have their preferred jobs before they graduate and 90% of our students are in graduate-level employment six months after graduation.

There are many well-paid nursing roles within both the NHS and other sectors. The skills you will formulate in your studies with us may support you to successfully advance in your nursing career.

After successfully completing the course, you'll be eligible to enter the professional register for nursing. You will also receive career guidance from your professional development tutor. Career routes are varied and exciting ranging from specialism within specific client groups e.g. older persons, Children and Young People’s services, community health or as specialist nurses or progression to roles in leadership, education or research.

General requirements

An honours degree (2:2 or above) in any discipline
Two years experience in the mental health or substance use field if holding a professional qualification in nursing, social work or an allied discipline.
If you're a graduate employed full-time by a participating local NHS Trust and hold a first degree (minimum 2:2), you'll be offered the opportunity to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice.
As a successful applicant, you'll be appointed as a Trainee Mental Health Worker on a fixed-term contract for the duration of the programme with one of the seconding Mental Health Trusts.
