Overview
The Migration, Politics and Society programme from UCL will give you an appreciation of the different facets of contemporary international population migration and its political implications.
Key facts
- The programme is housed in UCL’s Department of Geography – home to several leading international scholars in migration. It also draws on the expertise of academics across UCL, which has an international reputation in research on migration.
- It has two established research units: the Migration Research Unit and the Centre for Research on Economic Analysis of Migration.
- You will benefit from access to these research units and from a range of associated seminars and reading groups. UCL's migration research covers the globe with projects on migration from Mexico to China and from Senegal to Russia. The programme is also embedded in migration networks here in London, one of the world's most diverse cities.
The foundation of your career
- Graduates go on to work in a wide variety of roles across the public, private, and third sectors, both in the UK and internationally. According to the Graduate Outcomes survey (2017–2022), 81% of graduates were in highly skilled work or postgraduate study 15 months after graduation.
- Alumni commonly take up roles in national and local government, international organisations, NGOs, community-based organisations, policy think tanks, and advocacy groups. Many apply their training directly to supporting migrants and asylum seekers, or contribute to policy, research, communications, and service delivery in migration-related fields.
