SELECT aims at delivering education for high competency and quality engineering skills in the field, including industrial interaction throughout the programme.
This Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (SELECT) programme is offered by Aalto University.
Students graduating from the SELECT programme will have gained experience in the following topics:
The SELECT master's programme is presently a cooperation between the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden (KTH), Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands (TUE), Technical University of Catalonia in Spain (UPC), Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal (IST), AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland (AGH), and Aalto University in Finland (Aalto). SELECT is also part of the InnoEnergy Sustainable Energy masters programme. It is a two-year Master's programme including compulsory mobility for the students.
SELECT is powered by scholarships opportunities from Erasmus Mundus, as well as the EIT KIC InnoEnergy. Students from all over the world are welcome to apply.
Sustainable energy services are one of the key issues for humanity, considering the complete environmental footprint for the services delivered. The SELECT Masters programme starts from the concept basic renewable energy sources (sun, geothermal and moon driven tides) to establish the environomical pathways towards a future sustainable energy system. The SELECT curriculum emphasises the thermodynamic tools of energy and thermoeconomic analysis for training the future energy engineers in advanced well-to-wheel analysis. Sustainability analysis and problem solving, as well as effective knowledge-driven decision making in complex energy systems, are integrated in the curriculum.
Through an introductory two term curricula at KTH or at UPC, the concepts of renewable energy, sustainable power generation and environomical pathways are introduced. High-level training in project work and interactive seminars are used for enhanced learning processes. For term three, the students select a focus area to be studied at one other university: e.g., sustainable biomass processing, solar systems, or energy efficiency. In the fourth (final) term the students can perform the MSc thesis in an industrial setting in common supervision with researchers from any of the participating universities.

The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The minimum IELTS score requirement refers to which Overall Band Score you received, which is your combined average score. Read more about IELTS.Schedule IELTS
Minimum required score (Grade C):
The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test.
Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.
Minimum required score:
The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). The writing part of this test is scored separately on a scale of 0-6. Read more about TOEFL (PBT).
Minimum required score:
The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).
