Overview
The Advanced Catalysis and Molecular Modelling programme at University of Girona provides students with a hybrid approach (experimental and theoretical-computational) for the design and optimisation of catalytic processes.
Learning objectives
- The priority objective of the Master’s in Advanced Catalysis and Molecular Modelling is to endow the students with a deep knowledge of catalytic chemistry, which is can be applied in both industry and research.
- The master's degree aims to train students who can successfully enter industry, in relation to the different catalytic processes present, as well as corresponding research laboratories.Knowledge in homogeneous catalytic synthesis can be applied to other processes of synthetic chemistry, from organic to inorganic chemistry, through organometallic and bioinorganic chemistry.Similarly, the knowledge in computational chemistry on the application to the study of the structure of catalysts and the mechanism of catalytic reactions can be extrapolated to practically any field.
- The exclusive use of the English language in this master's degree is important. This facilitates knowledge of the terminology of catalytic chemistry in international use, and this is of great help both in industry and in the field of research. Also, students should be, at the end of the master's degree, fully competent in that language, both orally and in writing.

General requirements
- The official degrees that give direct access to the master’s degree are the bachelor's degree and the pre-EHEA degree of Chemistry.Other students with related degrees, such as Pharmacy, Biochemistry or Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science, can access the master's degree provided that they can demonstrate a background in organic chemistry, thermodynamics and chemical kinetics equivalent to that provided by the compulsory subjects of the Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry.
- On the other hand, given that the language used in the master's degree is English, it is necessary to have advanced level B2.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe.
- The Admission Committee will interview students who do not have a B2.1 level certificate or equivalent, in order to check that they will be able to follow the subjects taught on the master's degree without difficulty.
