Overview
This Graphics, Illustration, Photography, MDes course from The Glasgow School of Art aims to furnish students with the research skills and methods for stimulating innovative design practices through a combination of tutorials, seminars, workshops, and autonomous design and research projects equipping graduates with the practical and intellectual skills to apply their practice in social, economic, and technological contexts.
Delivered via a series of taught workshops, tutorials, set and elective projects, lecture and seminar-based sessions and self-directed learning, the emphasis of the programme rationale is on the contemporary practices of communication design, underpinned by theoretical research, and the social, technological, and economic contexts of contemporary design practices.

The one-year MDes in Graphics/Illustration/Photography is a traditional extension from BA (Hons)practice. It is intended specifically for practitioners working in the individual fields named in theprogramme title.
Application is made via a portfolio, and a statement that describes the nature of the candidate’sintended project(s) throughout the year. In most cases, this will extend directly fromundergraduate studies and/or professional experience, and will include examples of previousworks.
The programme reflects the importance of disciplinary autonomy and interdisciplinary dialogueand approaches via studio-based practice and its location within a supportive and diversepostgraduate community.
The programme aims to emphasise formal and informal cross-disciplinary discourses within the Stage 1 core course on Design Research Methods and Stage 2PGT elective courses.

International Students:
Students who require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK must meet oneof the following requirements in order to gain entry:
IELTS for UKVI Academic with an overall score of 6.5 with aminimum of 6.0 in all components;
complete an acceptable Pre-sessional English LanguageProgramme taught in the UK with an outcome that equates to the IELTS scores as stated above.
