The Department of Literature and Languages at at University of Zambia also coordinates and runs short courses to develop competences in a number of local and foreign languages. For example, it teaches Chinese, Japanese, English and French, among other foreign languages.

The medium of instruction and examination for all programmes at the University of Zambia is English. Students admitted to the University of Zambia are expected to be proficient in English Language.
