Internal medicine is the branch of medicine dedicated to the art of diagnosis and non surgical management of diseases affecting adults.
The Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases program at University of Zambia provides the backbone for the general clinical training of medical doctors as well as specialist and super specialist training.

General requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Zambia or an equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
- The candidate must have full registration with the Health Professionals Council of Zambia (HCPZ) and possess a certificate of good standing
- Applicants seeking government sponsorship will be required to have completed their mandatory rural posting .
- Candidates who have completed a minimum of 2 years training in either MMed Paediatrics, MMed Internal Medicine and MSc HIV Medicine will be considered for continuing the remaining part of their training as infectious disease specialists
