The minimum requirement for the Malay Language and Linguistics by Research program from The Universiti Brunei Darussalam is normally a relevant Bachelor’s Degree with Honours (Second Class and above) or its equivalent from institutions recognised by the University Senate unless otherwise stated.

General requirements
- A candidate should have some background of research and/or writing on Malay linguistics.
- Candidate applying for Master of Arts (Malay Language and Linguistics) by research must acquire a bachelor’s degree Second Class Upper
- Applicants who do not meet the above requirement may be considered, provided they possess other academic and/or professional qualifications in Malay linguistics. Appropriate experience and publications in Malay linguistics may also be taken into account.
- Language Requirement: Malay Language. At least GCE ‘O” Level credit C6.
- Candidate must send a research proposal of approximately 3,000 – 4,000 words (excluding initial bibliography) by inserting the following:Areas of study
- Topic review
- The problem of the study (supported previous studies)
- Objective
- Methodology
- The importance of research
- References
