The Statistics program at King's College London will prepare you to think critically about real-world data analysis problems arising in the public or private sector, for example in the financial, pharmaceutical or manufacturing sectors.

Key Features

The Statistics program is aimed to develop a deep knowledge and understanding of statistics and its mathematical foundations, and enable you to think logically and objectively about data analysis and statistical learning. You will have the opportunity to learn how to apply the most appropriate statistical models to answer practical questions, using modern statistical methods and software.

A rigorous approach to statistical modelling and data analysis, including both the theoretical underpinnings and state-of-the-art computational tools.

Acquiring the ability to design and evaluate data collection procedures and apply the most appropriate statistical methods to answer practical questions in a data-driven way.
Exposure to data analysis applications arising in a variety of practical contexts.
Lecturers have extensive experience in a wide-range of statistical problems and applications, for example in the design of experiments in industry, financial modelling, geostatistics and biostatistics.
Flexible study course offering the opportunity to study part-time.

The Department of Mathematics is a leading centre of research, with 100 percent of research classed as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).

Employability

There are a variety of careers in statistics for graduates. There are well established routes for statisticians such as the actuarial profession or in medical statistics within a pharmaceutical firm. Over the last decade new opportunities have arisen for careers in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for computational statisticians.Graduates from the Department of Mathematics are highly sought after by investment banks, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and large technological companies, to mention just a few.

A minimum high 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor’s (honours) degree with a final mark of at least 65% or above
If you have a lower degree classification, or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip).
Personal Statement
A copy (or copies) of your official academic transcript(s), showing the subjects studied and marks obtained. If you have already completed your degree, copies of your official degree certificate will also be required.
One academic reference is required. A professional reference will be accepted if you have completed your qualifications over five years ago. In some cases, we may request an additional reference from you.
