Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MMU)

Overview

The Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry course from Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MMU) is an “Age Defined” specialty. In this department, students perform all types of preventive and comprehensive dental procedures in children up to the age of 14 years. 

Further, a child-friendly environment is provided considering the variable behavior needs of the growing children and thus instilling in them a positive attitude towards dentistry.

Programme Outcomes

• After passing, the student must be able to differentiate abnormal from the normal development of the human body. Further, the student must be able to assess the behavior of the child for necessary dental procedures.

• The student must possess the skills to diagnose the disease as well as the nature and psychological status of the child and plan appropriate therapy.

• The student must possess the skills to effectively communicate with the parent(s).

• Must be able to implement a scientifically-based, effective program of primary prevention for children and adolescents.

• Render restorative care for teeth whose structural integrity has been compromised.

• Treat pulpally affected teeth

• Supervise the developing occlusion in such a manner that selected malocclusion can be prevented and/or intercepted with appropriate therapy.

• Provide dental care for mentally, physically, and/or emotionally disabled children.

• Recognize and refer patients whose conditions are beyond his/her competency and qualifications to competent specialists to provide the required care
