Overview
The Clinical Periodontics course from The College of Medicine and Dentistry will equip you with the skills and knowledge to diagnose and manage periodontal patients, and perform advanced periodontal procedures competently.
As part of the course, you will be exposed to advanced and unique training, benefiting from building up experience for treating periodontal patients, and simulated patients in state-of-the-art facilities at our Dental Hospital in central Birmingham. This includes advanced periodontal surgery, regenerative therapy, soft tissue and bone augmentation and implant placement.
The programme concludes with the completion of a research project and the publication of a dissertation.

- Taught by internationally renowned academics and experts in the field.
- An innovative programme covering advanced periodontal procedures, including those related to oral implantology.
- Strong multi-disciplinary education with other specialties including restorative dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and implant dentistry.
- GDC-registered students will be engaged in clinical management of patients in our hospital and will treat patients in our clinics under close supervision.
- Cadaveric workshops with advanced surgical procedures including soft tissue surgery, bone and Soft tissue grafting.
- A clinically oriented modular programme consisting of 540 credits.

- Copy of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), or equivalent, or other approved qualification in a cognate area
- Degree transcripts
- 2 references (or referees can complete the attached reference form)

- Sponsorship letter (if student is being sponsored)
- Undergraduate Degree in Dentistry, and
- Letter of good standing or equivalent from an appropriate regulatory dental body, and
- Applicants will need to demonstrate evidence of professional indemnity cover (only applicable for GDC registered students undertaking clinical practice at COMD)
- Minimum of one year work experience after undergraduate degree
- Satisfactory interview with the admissions tutor/course lead
