Overview
The Applied Sports Biomechanics and Movement Science program offered at Setanta College will teach you the pillars on which human movement and performance are built, including running, linear sprinting, multi-directional speed, jumping, landing and postural awareness will assist athletes, performance- and medical staff to screen, evaluate and coach proper movement skills and techniques to ultimately achieve these goals. The academic rigour of this course will furthermore allow students to progress academic studies and academic careers in sports and exercise science, such as Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy, etc.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program of study, graduates will be able to:
- Integrate knowledge from a range of fields into the generation of performance solutions.
- Provide an evidence-based and creative contribution to the development and/or application of biomechanics within their field of study.
- Analyse complex problems and issues relevant to the field of study and obtain a practical and valid response to these issues.
- Critically evaluate, design and implement solutions/systems in their operational context.
- Identify and apply relevant advanced knowledge, methods and techniques from their field of study.
- Assess solutions/systems and their applications according to their properties and potential to solve problems even if they are new to or unfamiliar with the context or lack information and/or reliable information; they can use their assessment as a basis for substantiation of decisions.
- Understand the ethical, social and cultural aspects of problems and solutions in their field of study and apply this insight within an inter-disciplinary role.
- Work as part of and play a leading role in a team; manage and plan a development process; document development and research processes.

General requirements
- An undergraduate degree in a cognate area.
- And currently (at the time of application and for the duration of the program) being involved in some aspect of sport, exercise or physical activity coaching.
- Or an undergraduate degree in a non-cognate area and demonstrated relevant professional experience in a related area or field of practice to the main area of study.
- Relevant professional experience includes recognition of prior learning for applicants without an undergraduate degree. See Relevant Professional Experience below.
- Applicants are expected to be active coaches or have an extensive coaching background. Whilst this can be a on a full time, paid basis, part time and voluntary coaching is equally applicable.
- International students will be required to converse confidently in English.
