The programme has been developed to meet the needs of the regional and national engineering industry, which requires graduates with high-level skills in design, analysis and testing. In addition, the course fulfils the requirements of Engineers Ireland for a Master’s degree in an engineering discipline as the minimum educational standard for Chartered Engineer status. The programme has been designed to provide a flexible route to masters qualification and is available in both full-time (2 days per week for 1 year) and part-time (1 day per week for 2 years) delivery modes with significant focus placed on the research dissertation, completed over the duration of the course.

- Applicants must have an Honours bachelor's degree (NQF Level 8 or equivalent) with a minimum grade 2.1 in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline that should have covered mechanical engineering fundamentals such as Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Materials.
