Overview
What is it about?
Research into soft matter and soft materials requires a holistic understanding of physics and chemistry in the field. The aim of the master's degree program in Soft Matter and Materials at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is to impart technical knowledge and conceptual competence regarding the production of building blocks (e.g. polymers, supramolecular tectons, colloids) and the structure-dynamic-property relationships of soft matter and materials. Functional concepts should be learned using both general synthetic components and biologically relevant components. The training should be rounded off by acquiring knowledge of the technical processing and industrial use of soft materials. All of this teaching and learning content is acquired in English.Good to know: The course is run in cooperation with the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research . What does this mean in practice? The master's degree program is divided into four semesters, the first of which begins in the winter semester at the Mainz location (JGU and Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research) and the second at the Technical University of Darmstadt. The students can then flexibly set individual priorities at both locations, including in Mainz at the MPI for Polymer Research.Programme Structure
