At the Master of Science in Chemistry (by Research) from University of Malaya, one or more supervisors are assigned to the student whose role is to assist the student to define the research topic and to provide guidance in the development of the research project. On completion of the research the candidate is required to submit a thesis on his research findings for examination.

- Bachelor of Science with Hons (CGPA 3.00 and above) or its equivalent in related field, or
- Bachelor of Science or its equivalent in related field with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant working experience in the related field, or
- proof of publication in a related field;
- Professional qualification from a recognised professional body or other qualifications as approved by Senate.
- International students are required to attend and pass a basic course in Bahasa Melayu before the degree can be conferred.
