Overview
This master’s degree’s objective is training and the acquisition of professional qualifications for Physical Education Teachers in Primary and Secondary Education, and Teaching Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Education students at University of Madeira should:
1- Be able to:
- A) Understand the acquired knowledge in the first cycle of studies, and apply it to new situations and in problem solving in the educational system (in the practice of Physical Education and Sports);
- B) Deepen and integrate knowledge, dealing with complex questions, develop solutions, in the fields of Physical Education and School Sports;
- C) Communicate in a clear and adequate manner (in written, oral, corporal and emotional manner) in the organization or orientation of Physical Activity and Sports;
- D) Develop and apply specific competences (internship) and produce a report that proves research skills and originality in the fields of Physical Education and School sports;
- A) A high social responsibility and attitude in the orientation of Physical Activities and Sports, developing skills that enhance physical aptitude, quality of life, health and the interest in young people’s regular activities;
- B) A sense of learning and permanent overcoming (sharing of information, solidarity and team work) within the areas covered by the extension of Physical Education.
Careers
Graduates will be professionally qualified to teach Physical Education in Basic and Secondary Schools. According to the decree-law number 43/2007 of 22nd of February, the approval of the 2nd cycle of studies is mandatory for a teaching career.

- - Copy of ID card or passport
- - Declaration under oath that the candidate does not have Portuguese nationality nor is covered by the provisions of numbers 2 and 3 of article 3 of Decree-Law no. 36/2014, of March 10, as currently worded
- - Secondary education diploma or equivalent, or, if the academic qualification does not correspond to the Portuguese secondary education, a document proving that it allows, in the country where it was obtained, access to higher education
- - Course syllabuses and other documents that prove the subjects taught and obtained by the candidates (not applicable when presenting proof of national exams in your country)
- - Proof of completion of national exams in your country (ENEM for candidates from Brazil)
- - Documentary evidence attesting proficiency in the language the study cycle is taught
- - Proof that the candidate holds the Prerequisites (where applicable)
