Overview

This Theatre (Musical Theatre) program at The University of Wales Trinity Saint David will develop the student’s skills as a musical theatre performer with an emphasis on:

Public Performances

Students are provided with the experience that corresponds to working on a number of professionally staged performances. They will rehearse and perform a number of roles under professional direction and production conditions. Students are expected to demonstrate a high degree of ability to work independently, with a director, and in collaboration with their peers. 

Core skills and Techniques

• Dance: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, musical theatre repertoire, body conditioning, Pilates, yoga & physical theatre
• Singing: Weekly One-to-one singing lessons, vocal technique classes, repertoire classes and ensemble singing classes.
• Acting: Classes in Stanislavski, Meisner, Michael Checkov, acting through song, one-to-one monologue tutorials, text analysis.

Professional Development

Professional development will include an agent’s showcase and the preparation of a professional development portfolio. The portfolio will include evidence of research, reflective writing and a collection of materials compiled over the duration of the student’s studies, including a list of the activities and events that they have been involved in and a range of professional documents. It is developed in close consultation with a Personal Tutor and tailored to the specific professional requirements of each student. As a whole, the contents of the portfolio will be evidence of the student’s individual artistic profile and reflect on their ongoing development as a performer.
