Overview
This Theatre (Musical Theatre) program at The University of Wales Trinity Saint David will develop the student’s skills as a musical theatre performer with an emphasis on:
Public Performances
Students are provided with the experience that corresponds to working on a number of professionally staged performances. They will rehearse and perform a number of roles under professional direction and production conditions. Students are expected to demonstrate a high degree of ability to work independently, with a director, and in collaboration with their peers.
Core skills and Techniques
- Dance: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, musical theatre repertoire, body conditioning, Pilates, yoga & physical theatre
- Singing: Weekly One-to-one singing lessons, vocal technique classes, repertoire classes and ensemble singing classes.
- Acting: Classes in Stanislavski, Meisner, Michael Checkov, acting through song, one-to-one monologue tutorials, text analysis.
Professional Development
Professional development will include an agent’s showcase and the preparation of a professional development portfolio. The portfolio will include evidence of research, reflective writing and a collection of materials compiled over the duration of the student’s studies, including a list of the activities and events that they have been involved in and a range of professional documents. It is developed in close consultation with a Personal Tutor and tailored to the specific professional requirements of each student. As a whole, the contents of the portfolio will be evidence of the student’s individual artistic profile and reflect on their ongoing development as a performer.

General requirements
- UK bachelor degree (minimum 2:1) or experience.
- Typically a minimum of two A levels and supporting AS level qualifications, or equivalent. There may be some specific course requirements to be taken into account.
- The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying Key Skills qualifications, but they are not likely to be included in the terms of the offer made. The University will accept a maximum of 20 points for Level 3 Key Skills.
- We recognise a wide range of international qualifications, including the International, French and European Baccalaureates.
- If English is not your first language, the university will require evidence that you have the required English to complete a research degree; your application will not be processed until this has been received.
