Overview
If you have a relevant undergraduate major, you'll be able to complete the Biomedical Engineering program at University of Melbourne in 2 years. Once you’ve started studying, you can follow the ‘Business’ specialisation or continue without specialising.
During the program, you will be guided by academics who have worked on ground-breaking innovations in medical bionics, human movement, prosthetics and tissue engineering. Some of these breakthroughs include: the bionic eye, implants to help control epilepsy, treating real-world injuries with virtual reality and tissue regeneration for patients recovering from breast cancer.

2-year program:
- Bachelor of Science with a Biomedical Engineering Systems major
- Bachelor of Biomedicine with a Biomedical Engineering Systems major
- If you hold an engineering degree or major in an equivalent specialisation from another institution, with a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent, you may be eligible to receive credit for up to one year and enter the 2-year program.
3-year program if you hold any undergraduate degree with:
- The equivalent of 25 points (two subjects) of first year mathematics, specifically Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra, and
- The equivalent of 25 points (two subjects) of first year science: either biology or chemistry.
- A weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent*.
