Overview
The multidisciplinary approach of the Architecture and Urban Planning program at University of Melbourne gives you the ability to realise synergies between disciplines, broadening your skillset and giving you a contemporary understanding of the built environment profession.
This program aims to provide you with:
- highly developed skills to manage an architectural practice and lead or work within cross-discipline project teams;
- an understanding of Australian and international policy and planning affecting human settlements;
- a sustainable outlook with the ability to use new materials and technologies to create environmentally sustainable buildings;
- the ability to adapt and respond through planning and design to the global changes impacting our cities including climate change, deepening inequality, concerns for community health and safety, and the emergence of city-regions;
- a grounding in architectural history, theory and technology that leads to the creation of innovative architecture.
Career
Once you have completed the double master degree, you will be well positioned to work for private architecture firms, government departments, local councils, institutional bodies, project management firms, research institutions, specialised consultancies, trade specialists or set up your own practice working on residential, commercial and institutional projects. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A three-year undergraduate degree in a cognate discipline with a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 65% (University of Melbourne equivalent); and
- One design studio subject and one art/architecture/built environment/design history subject at undergraduate level, or equivalent; and
- A Design Portfolio; and
- A Personal Statement of up to 500 words outlining relevant prior study and work experience, and motivation to undertake the program; and
- Satisfy the University of Melbourne's English Language Requirement.
