Overview

Offered as a one-year or two-year program, the Historical Studies (2 years) programme from Central European University (CEU) is designed for those eager to explore the interconnectedness of historical periods, world regions, national boundaries and academic fields of study through an interdisciplinary lens. You will choose from two chronological specializations to narrow your area of expertise and gain in-depth knowledge on a topic you are passionate about.   

Both one-year and two-year MA in Historical Studies options offer two specialization tracks.

• History Track (MAHISU)

The History track is characterized by breadth and variety. You can choose courses from across the entire curriculum of the Department of Historical Studies, exploring periods from antiquity to the present day. This degree emphasizes language learning at beginner and intermediate levels, methodological training and practical skills courses.    

• Late Antique and Medieval Studies track (MALAMS) 

The Late Antique and Medieval Studies (LAMS)track has two aims. If you choose this track as a one-year student, you will delve into interdisciplinary explorations of this era, encompassing, for example, politics, economics, society, culture, archaeology, philosophy and art history.

Equipped with advanced skills in historical analysis and research in an interdisciplinary context, you can formulate, design, conduct, analyze, and present original research projects that investigate the influence of historical events on contemporary society.
