Objectives
Medical Genetics is becoming an increasingly important aspect in healthcare and has a major impact on the provision of more accurate clinical diagnoses, as well as enabling state-of-the-art therapeutic approaches that have already been introduced in-clinic in recent years. It is a major component of the vision towards personalised medicine and thus constitutes a highly attractive field of studies for the next generation of biomedicine professionals.
The Medical Genetics program from The Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics offers four stimulating compulsory courses on Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics and Genomics, Biochemical Genetics, as well as Methodologies and Technologies Applied in Medical Genetics. A number of elective courses such as Bioinformatics, Molecular Basis of Monogenic Diseases, Molecular Basis of Complex Diseases, Gene and Cell Therapy, Neurosciences and Neurogenetics, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Brain and Behaviour and Molecular Virology and Immunology are also available, enabling students to broaden their knowledge. Students also carry out a research or library project within the state-of-the-art Departments and Clinics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics. The Institute conducts internationally renowned pioneering research work, therefore providing its postgraduate students with the knowledge and tools to complete a competitive and advanced research or library project.
