The one-year Master Programme in Wind Power Project Management from Uppsala University is designed to prepare students for professional careers in the global wind power industry combining technology and management as well as both natural and social science. 

The programme takes place in the World Heritage town of Visby. Uppsala University’s Gotland Campus, situated on the island of Gotland, is a leader in wind power project management education.

The different aspects of the programme’s subjects are introduced early on. In the first course of the autumn term, management theory and skills are taught together with wind power development and management. The management skills learned in this first course will be applied and practiced throughout the year. 


The job market for graduates is strongly international as the methods and issues are similar in different parts of the world. The demand for competence is increasing internationally. . Actors within the field are for example, companies operating wind farms, consulting firms, local and national governments, component manufacturing and supply chain companies, research institutions or other organizations working with renewable energy and/or environmental issues.

Programme Structure

Semester 1

  • The autumn semester starts with a course in Wind Power Development and Management that provides the basic knowledge and skills in the field. This is followed by courses in Wind Resource Assessment and Planning for Wind Energy where the knowledge of the meteorological, planning and permission prerequisites of wind power projects is taught. 

Semester 2

  • In the spring semester, you will learn about the integration of wind power in the electric grid, deepen your knowledge of wind turbine technology and study the planning aspects of wind power. The term concludes with an individual thesis which can be completed with the cooperation of a partner in industry or research.

Academic Requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. The main field of study must be within engineering, science or social science.

Selection: Students are selected based on:

  • a total appraisal of quantity and quality of previous university studies; and
  • a statement of purpose (1 page).
