Overview
Overview
The master’s degree, which is conducted in English, examines emerging media and techno-cultural trends, and proposes a comprehensive and critical understanding of digital culture from the media studies perspective, exploring the complex relationships between society, technology, communication and the media. In addition to the possibility of going on to do a doctoral programme and deepening their theoretical knowledge of the digital world, the master’s degree will also enable students to enrich their creative and professional skills in the field of communication and interactive digital media.
The master’s degree in Digital Culture and Emerging Media at Pompeu Fabra University mainly targets students in the field of communication (audiovisual communication, journalism, advertising and public relations [PR]); but, at the same time, it is designed with a view to its potential interest for students in the fields from social sciences (e.g., sociology), students of art and the humanities, and ICT studies. (Students coming from studies that are not in the field of communication will have to take bridging courses).
The master’s degree in Digital Culture and Emerging Media targets both students who wish to pursue a research career in academia and those who wish to make their way professionally in the field of interactive digital communication, whether students or employees in this sector (or some other) interested in renewing their skills related to digital media or gaining further knowledge of it, through the master’s degree. With regard to the former case, the programme will prepare the student to receive solid training in research, which will allow them to progress towards doctoral studies. In the latter case, the following are some of the areas in which graduates are expected to be able to exercise their profession: research and consultancy in business and institutional centres; information and communication in digital and interactive media; creation of narrative, artistic and entertainment content in the field of digital and interactive media; design of digital products and interactive experiences; cultural management and content curation in digital media; education and training for different types of audiences, concerning digital culture and new media.
