Overview

On successful completion of the Primary Education course from University of Huddersfield , we’ll recommend you for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and you’ll also earn 60 master’s-level credits – giving you a strong foundation for your teaching career and future academic progression.

You’ll spend around two-thirds of your time in our partner schools, developing practical teaching skills through placements that follow an ABA model - meaning you return to your first school for your final block placement, giving you the chance to see pupils progress over the school year and deepen your classroom experience. You’ll also take part in Intense Training and Practice (ITAP) weeks in placement schools to build confidence before block placements begin.

General requirements

An Honours degree with a classification of 2:2 or above.

GCSE English Language, Maths and a Science at grade 4 or above (or grade C or above if awarded under the previous GCSE grading scheme) or equivalent.

If your first language is not English, you will need IELTS 7.0 overall, with no element less than 6.5.

If all or part of your qualifications are from outside the UK, we’ll need a UK ENIC statement of comparability.

Other requirements:

You must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, and that you have the intellectual and academic potential to meet the required Teachers’ Standards by the end of the programme.

You should provide two references.

You also need satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and occupational health clearances prior to registration on the course.
