Overview
Overview
As contemporary curatorial practice has become an integral part of the work of galleries, museums, festivals and other large or small-scale events - and this increasingly being foregrounded in the way that artists, critics, designers, filmmakers, curators and cultural practitioners think about the articulation and presentation of their creative work in public. As a result, this has made curating a sophisticated field that requires specialised training, as well as critical engagement, thinking and theorisation. The Wits School of Arts now offers a cross disciplinary masters in curating at University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
A Masters Degree can be undertaken in three different ways: by dissertation, by dissertation and practical project, or by coursework and research report, or by dissertation only. In the case the Master of Art in Contemporary Curatorial Practice, the research report is even shorter, 10000 – 15000 words, as it is accompanied by a practical component.
