Overview
The purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifiers with advanced research skills in a chosen field of social work. The competencies to access, analyse, process, transform and critically evaluate existing knowledge in order to achieve an integrated synthesis of the research field. The knowledge and skills to engage in independent social work research, selecting from a range of appropriate research designs, technologies, methods and techniques in the chosen focus area of social work. The ability to produce and communicate the research findings. This qualification also allows access to continuation of learning on National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 10, namely the Doctor of Social Work.
Features
- The Social Work curriculum at University of South Africa (UNISA) consists of a dissertation that incorporates a research proposal; and a manuscript, based on the candidate's research, submitted for publication to a recognised accredited journal.
- Proof of the submission of the manuscript is a compulsory condition for the degree to be conferred.

General requirements
- Copies of all official academic records, including all papers / modules passed, percentages obtained and the ledger. You do not need to submit Unisa academic records. If your official records are not in English, you must also submit translations by a sworn translator.
- A copy of your ID or valid passport.
- A research outline, CV and any additional documents as indicated in the admission requirements for the specific qualification under the departmental focus area requirements (applicants applying for the MBA, MBL, DBL, coursework LLMs and the Coursework MCom in Industrial Psychology do not need to submit a research outline).
- RPL approval letter if you applied for admission via RPL.
- A SAQA certificate of evaluation
