About the program

• The Applied Linguistics (CW) program at University of Johannesburg consists of two modules plus a minor dissertation. In addition, Research
• Methodology is a compulsory module, except when otherwise advised by the Departmental Postgraduate Committee. Students, in collaboration with the Postgraduate Committee, choose the two modules from the list of elective modules below.
• All modules are year modules and each module is examined by means of an examination and a portfolio, as well as practicals where applicable.

• The minor dissertation represents 50% of the final mark and must be passed independently

The Department views its mission as developing critical awareness of the significance of thorough knowledge of the ways in which language and texts operate as essential components of all successful communication, by training students to interact with language and texts and to undertake research in a variety of domains in order to empower them as language users.​​​​
