Learning Outcomes

Students in the Occupational Health programme at the University of Cape Town will be able to:

Identify the work-related health problem and formulate a study hypothesis

Produce an evidence-based literature review

Develop a protocol that includes the method for doing the research project

Collect and accurately analyse data statistically

Interpreting results and developing a critique

Write a scientific paper for a peer-reviewed publication

Programme Structure

Course outline:

One-week block modules of the DOH programme (occupational health risk assessment and management, occupational medicine and work ability, and occupational health services management)

Complete required coursework in research methods (literature review, protocol development, data analysis) over the two-year period.

You will be assigned a research supervisor to advise you throughout the research process until the submission of your dissertation.

Holds an MBChB degree, an honours degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree in an approved discipline
