Overview
The main processes studied consist of birth and mortality rates and changes in the demographic structure, including family and household structures. Demography also addresses topics surrounding marriage, divorce, abortion and migration.
Career opportunities
Graduates of the follow-up Demography at Charles University are able to secure employment at all levels of the state administration sector (from municipal authorities to national ministries and the state statistical service) as well as in the private sector (opinion polls, pension and life insurance, marketing and promotion).
Graduates are also qualified to work in the field of the science and research of people and human populations (from economic and social to medical and anthropological research). In addition, graduates are prepared for continuing their studies and further expanding their knowledge of demography at the doctoral level

General requirements
- Basic knowledge of demography.
- The single-round exam in form of an oral interview from demography.
- The exam is aimed at testing applicant’s general knowledge of the field. The exam includes a discussion about the topic of the applicant’s bachelor thesis and a discussion about a topic for a master thesis.
- Examination is assessed with a maximum of 100 points.
- During the admission examination, the applicant will present a transcript of the courses completed during previous study.
- The admission exam is held in English.
