About the program

An emphasis will be given for the classic as well as the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, and also to training in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.

Residents will treat complex and advanced periodontal cases including patients with a complex medical history. In addition, the residents will be specially trained in the placement and repair of dental implants and bone-related surgeries.

Graduate students in this Periodontology program at the University of Alberta will be prepared to challenge the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) Fellowship national specialty examination as well as the American Board of Periodontology exam.

The School of Dentistry requires a 4-year undergraduate degree, in any discipline, with a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
Unofficial transcripts of all academic work in progress or completed at all post-secondary institutions attended.
Names and contact information of three referees who are required to submit their recommendation before the stated due date. At least two referees must be professional references.
Curriculum vitae (resume) which includes education, qualifications, publications, community involvement, and previous professional and research experience.
Letter of intent describing why you wish to pursue graduate studies at the University of Alberta.
Applicants must identify a willing faculty supervisor, a potential thesis topic, and potential funding prior to submitting applications.
