Overview
Over the course of the first year, students of the Creative Writing programme offered at University of Cape Town enrol in one compulsory workshop and three electives, which can include an additional writing-based course. The second year of the programme is then devoted to their literary work.
Key Facts
Students enrolled in the MA in Creative Writing begin their two-year programme with a workshop taught by the programme director, Prof. Imraan Coovadia. Immersive and intimate, the workshop affords students the opportunity to share their writing in a nurturing and structured space, and receive detailed feedback from both Prof. Coovadia and their peers.
As part of the programme, students can also apply for a variety of other creative writing courses, including the Centre for Film & Media Studies’ Narrative Literary Journalism, as well as in poetry, screenwriting, travel writing and more.
