Overview

The Pharmacognosy program at Taipei Medical University focuses on the isolation and structure elucidation of compounds from medicinal herbs, the development of Chinese herbs and functional foods for anti-hypertension, anti-hepatitis, anti-hyperglycemia, anti-cancer and immune regulation. Through cooperation with government and biotechnology industry, the training and practice pharmacognosy has been developed to meet the people’s need and government’s policy. In education, the core value is applying pharmacognosy, crude drugs development and clinical research in Chinese herbal medicine. Students are instructed so they can have the ability to do research on chemical compounds and bioactivity of Chinese herbal medicines as well as possess the skills for isolating and analyzing the structures of compounds from natural products, natural products pharmacology, molecular mechanisms and knowledge associated with applying Chinese herbal medicine to clinical medical needs.
