Overview
The University Putra Malaysia's program in Tropical Biology consists of three semesters and is a combination of coursework (34 credits) and research (6 credits). The goals of the program are to produce: (i) professional, highly qualified and competent researchers and administrative/executive officers in the field of sustainable biology, (ii) academicians who are capable of carrying out advanced study and lifelong learning as well as capable of applying analytical skills in solving problems related to tropical biology, and (iii) tropical biology-related industry entrepreneurs with deep knowledge and high technical skills.
Learning outcomes
Graduates in the program will be created to be scientifically minded, creative and innovative. They will be provided with the latest technical and analytical skills, along with competencies in information management for advanced learning. Graduates from the program will be able to engage in a variety of careers that require knowledge and skills in tropical biology, both in the public and private sectors.

General requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate; or
- A bachelor’s degree degree in the field or related fields with range CGPA of 2.500 to CGPA 2.749 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment by Faculty/School/Institute; or
- A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a range of CGPA 2.000 to CGPA 2.499, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment by Faculty/School/Institute.
- English (minimum 550 TOEFL or 6.0 IELTS).
