Overview
The Language and Literature programme from Makerere University will produce graduates who, at whatever level in the education system and wherever in the world they may go to work, will demonstrate mastery of the four desired teaching components – Content Knowledge, Pedagogical Content Knowledge, Pedagogy and, indeed, Professionalism.
Learning outcomes
The graduates will be capable to work as language policy specialists in relevant government departments, curriculum specialists responsible for curriculum development and reform, materials developers who are equipped with a capacity for internalizing the theories of language learning and use, determining the teaching and learning needs of various clientele, selecting teaching and learning content and designing materials for use in specified language and literature programmes, educational researchers who are capable of interpreting situations and developments for the benefit of language teaching and learning, teacher educators at colleges and universities, capable of equipping teacher trainees not only with knowledge about languages of interest but also with the confidence to make decisions suitable to learning contexts, and School teachers who are capable of teaching learners not only to know about the languages but also to use them in real communication situations.
