Overview
Neuroscientists are in demand above all in universities and research institutes, hospitals, medical technology companies and in the research-based pharmaceutical and chemical industry.
Due to the multidisciplinary approach of the neurosciences, the graduates also have opportunities in other fields of work. Examples include 3D simulations and image analysis, which are often used in anatomical work on the connectivity of nerve cells in brain areas. Through these skills, often acquired in data analysis and simulation, neuroscientists are also able to find adequate employment outside of the core work areas as mentioned above thanks to their methodical competence.
Potential careers
Furthermore, graduates of the Neuroscience course from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz can also find jobs in clinical diagnostics by applying their cell biological/molecular biological knowledge. With the increasing aging of our society, however, neurodegenerative diseases and their research are also a rapidly expanding field of research, where cell biological/molecular neuroscientists are needed to elucidate the mechanisms of disease development.
