Overview
These microbes play key roles in the areas of nutrient cycling, biodegradation/biodegradation, climate change, food spoilage, disease cause and control, and biotechnology. Thanks to their versatility, microorganisms can be used in a wide range of applications: to produce life-saving medicines, to produce biofuels, to clean up environmental pollution, and to manufacture and process food and beverages.
The Forthem Master allows to obtain a double degree between the University of Burgundy and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
At the end of the two years of the Master programme, students are strongly encouraged to pursue a doctoral thesis in order to complete their scientific training. These can take place in the fields of research in fundamental or applied microbiology.
Nevertheless, at the end of the Master's degree students can also directly continue their career in research and development departments of companies or public research institutions.
Learning outcomes
The students of the international Master's program Microbiology acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of microbiology, especially in the areas of molecular microbiology, microbial physiology and biotechnology as well as microbial ecology. There is a clear research-oriented focus with regard to the diverse areas of application in industry, biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, food technology, waste management, soil remediation or materials research.
