Overview
The Islamic Studies program of The University of Lahore provides a comprehensive exploration of Islamic thought, history, culture, law, philosophy, and contemporary issues facing the Muslim world. The programme is ideal for you if you are seeking to contribute to academic discourse, become an expert in Islamic theology and history, or pursue careers in education, religious leadership, policy-making, or interfaith dialogue. Through rigorous coursework taught by expert faculty, research, and critical analysis, you will engage with classical and modern Islamic ideas.
PIS not only strengthens students’ grasp of core Islamic subjects like Quranic Sciences, Hadith, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), but also encourages interdisciplinary approaches to understanding Islam’s role in global and modern contexts. This programme equips you with the scholarly tools to conduct profound research and critically examine contemporary issues from an Islamic perspective, including ethics, social justice, political thought, and modern challenges faced by Muslim communities. In the final year, students have the option to either complete a dissertation or, alternatively, take two additional courses in place of the thesis.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the PIS programme have career opportunities in academia, religious leadership, Shariah law, public policy, media, and non-profit sectors. You can be a university professor, researcher, or educator or serve as a religious scholar. With expertise in Islamic law, you may work as a consultant in Islamic finance or can even contribute to policy-making, interfaith dialogue, and cultural diplomacy, promoting understanding and cooperation between communities.
