Graduates are encouraged to carry out empirical research in close cooperation with software houses. The Software Engineering (MSSE) degree at the International Islamic University Islamabad requires students to write a research thesis contributing to Software Engineering body of knowledge.

Software Systems Engineering Research Group carries out research with the focus on Empirical Software Engineering. This research groups supports student research. Over the last three years, group members have produced many publications. SSEL is currently working on following projects:

Software Development Outsourcing Trust Framework (SOTF) project in collaboration with Software Engineering Research Group, Keele University UK.
Concept Mapping Approach for Software Engineering Curriculum project in collaboration with Department of Computer Science, Kent State University, Ohio, USA.

16 Years Graduate Degree in (BS) CS/SE/IT/CE or MCS / M.Sc (CS) or BCS (Hons) / BCS 3-years or equivalent with CGPA 2/4.00 or 60% marks from Annual/Conventional System where CGPA is not calculated or 65% marks in the semester system examination, where CGPA is not mentioned on terminal degree/transcript.

International students:

Passport size photographs with blue background
Copy of Passport Residential Permit (Eqama), Overseas ID card, NOC of /o Foreign Affairs or Your Embassy in Pakistan
