Overview
The Materials Engineering MSc programme aims to educate and award MSc degrees to materials engineers with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the structure, properties, behaviour, and application of technical materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and advanced functional materials.
Graduates acquire broad knowledge of the natural and technical sciences underlying materials engineering, as well as of the main material classes, their properties, structures, processing technologies, and application fields. They are familiar with the principles of materials characterisation and measurement techniques, relevant professional regulations and legislation, technical documentation standards, and the fundamentals of information and communication technologies used in the field. Students also gain insight into organisational and management tools relevant to industrial and research environments.
Based on this knowledge, graduates are able to develop, operate, organise, and manage manufacturing, forming, and materials processing technologies; conduct and coordinate research and development activities; and contribute effectively to industrial innovation and quality assurance. The programme also provides a solid foundation for continuing studies at the postgraduate (PhD) level.
