Overview
MA in Applied Linguistics
The MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of Pannonia is a four-semester programme open to applicants who hold a BA degree in the humanities or social sciences and have at least B2-level English proficiency. The programme offers a modern, research-oriented approach to language, communication, and multilingualism in today’s globalised world.
During your studies, you will gain in-depth knowledge of how language works in the human mind and in society. You will explore how languages are processed in the brain, how first and second languages are acquired, and how speech is produced and perceived. Special attention is given to bilingual and multilingual communication, intercultural interaction, media language analysis, and the linguistic rights and language policies of different countries. You will also become familiar with the main methods of applied linguistics research, preparing you for independent academic work.
Students benefit from learning in an international academic environment, with courses taught by internationally recognised scholars. The programme actively encourages participation in research projects, conferences, and publication activities, providing an excellent foundation for an academic career. Graduates are well prepared to continue their studies in the Multilingualism Doctoral School.
Key academic interests include:
First and second language acquisition
Speech production and perception
Multilingualism and intercultural communication
Language planning and language policy
Media and discourse analysis
Applied linguistics research methodology
Career opportunities
Graduates can pursue careers wherever human communication is central, including roles as researchers, language advisors, communication and speech experts, counsellors, spokespersons, or consultants in public institutions, education, media, and international organisations.
