The Public Health Sciences programme at University of Iceland has a strong emphasis on determinants of health and basic knowledge of disease prevention.

At the conclusion of the Public Health Sciences programme at University of Iceland, the student shall be able to demonstrate knowledge, ability and skills beyond that achieved at the previous level, as listed below:

• The student has acquired logical understanding of basic concepts and research methods used within public health sciences, and the ability to relate that understanding to his/her field of specialisation.

• The student can employ the theories of public health sciences within his/her field of specialisation.

• The student understands the main information- and databases used in public health sciences as well as within his/her field of specialisation.

• The student can assemble and develop methodology appropriate to public health sciences (epidemiology and biostatistics) so as to address and resolve the problems that might arise in a research within his/her field of specialisation.

• The student can describe and explain the basis and limitations of the methodology generally used in public health sciences.

• The student masters the key research methods employed in public health sciences.

• The student can collaborate and be an active team player in planning and executing a research.
