Overview
British Studies at the University of Regensburg deals with textual as well as visual, material, performative and virtual representations and interpretations of the cultures it researches, and within this, above all with the methods of literary and cultural studies, linguistics, media studies and gender studies. In the context of both the history of the British Empire and globalisation, postcolonial texts and theoretical approaches as well as intercultural issues are of particular importance.
Mission
The aim of British Studies teaching and research is a historically informed, culturally differentiated and academically reflected understanding of the United Kingdom, Ireland and the English-speaking world. The main areas of focus of British Studies at the University of Regensburg currently include:
- literature and culture of the United Kingdom in the 19th and 20th centuries
- contemporary British culture and media
- gender studies
- early modern studies
- science and literature studies
- postcolonial studies.

- CV (including name, date of birth, postal address, email address, the exact titles + grades of your qualifications, and the full name of your university)
- a cover letter in English (approximately 2 pages)
- APS-certificate (for applicants from China, Vietnam, India)
- copy of your passport (only for international applicants)

- University degree certificate: university degree with at least six semesters of standard period of study (full-time study) in British literary and cultural studies or related subject combinations with an average grade of at least 2.50; foreign degrees will be converted according to the modified Bavarian formula
- transcript of academic records, citing your attended courses and documenting your hitherto achieved credit points (at least 150 credit points ECTS) and your average grade
- secondary school-leaving certificate (high-school or equiv.)
- a sample of your own academic work (10-20 pages), written in English
