Upon successful completion of the MSc in Computational Biology, which includes a Research Project and the submission of a thesis, students will earn 90 ECTS credits on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). Those who complete the taught modules but do not undertake a project will receive a Postgraduate Diploma, which accounts for 60 ECTS credits. The curriculum is structured to ensure that graduates possess high-level knowledge in biological sciences and computational skills applicable to the analysis, interpretation, and visualisation of extensive biological datasets. The MSc in Computational Biology is a collaborative effort between the Departments of Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Mathematics, aimed at cultivating highly skilled professionals with expert knowledge in both computational and biological sciences—a skill set that is increasingly sought after in the modern job market. The programme spans a minimum of four semesters, with each semester contributing 15 credits through taught modules. In the fourth semester, students will undertake an additional project module worth 30 credits, which must be submitted by 31 August to qualify for graduation in October of that year. This two-stage award system allows for an exit option after accumulating 60 credits, leading to a Level 9 Postgraduate Diploma qualification, while successful completion of the full programme results in a Level 9 Master of Science qualification.

- A H2.2 (or equivalent) in a Level 8 Degree in any branch of biological sciences, or a related discipline.
- The language of academic instruction as well as administration is English. An IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent) with no category below 5.5 will be requested of non-EU students, when deemed appropriate by the Head of Department.
