Performance: Theatre Making University of the Arts London (UAL)

Overview

The MA Performance: Theatre Making at University of the Arts London (UAL) offers an intensive, studio-based postgraduate experience designed for emerging theatre makers. Over 15 months, students engage in collaborative projects that explore experimental performance, devised theatre, and innovative storytelling techniques. The curriculum integrates practical workshops, seminars, and live performance opportunities, fostering a deep understanding of contemporary theatre practices.

Students are encouraged to challenge traditional theatrical conventions, experimenting with form, content, and audience interaction. The course promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, allowing students to work alongside designers, technicians, and other creatives to produce original work. Emphasis is placed on developing a personal artistic voice and a critical understanding of the socio-political contexts of performance.

Graduates of the programme are equipped with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers as theatre directors, performance artists, dramaturgs, and theatre educators. The course also provides a strong foundation for those interested in further academic study or research in the field of performance.
