The new English and American Studies - English Linguistics program from University of Stuttgart replaces the previous master’s degree program in English Studies (Anglistik).

The study program is divided into two parts, of which a student must choose one at the beginning of the English and American Studies - English Linguistics program from University of Stuttgart: "English Linguistics” and “English and American Studies".

These two parts reflect the institutes and departments which English Studies at the University of Stuttgart covers:

  • The Department of American Literature and Culture and the Department of English Literatures, which focus on research into canonical texts as well as on issues regarding post-modernism, post-colonialism, interdisciplinary cultural studies and media studies.
  • The Department of English Linguistics, whose research focuses on the core disciplines of linguistics: phonetics, syntax, morphology and semantics. As well as the history of the English language, it also covers the phonetic, cognitive and neurolinguistic aspects of language acquisition.
