The course consists of four core modules, two electives and a final major project or dissertation. The whole course lasts 12 months full-time or 24 or 36 months part time. It works around your life so you can swap between schedules each semester.The course is designed to do two main things:
- To raise the creative and technical quality of your songs or music to a professional, commercial level. Whether its mixing and mastering, structuring your music or the practical everyday application of advanced music theory, we will help you will maximise your creative and commercial potential.
- We will also give you the ability to become more critically self-aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your own music, to collaborate with and exchange constructive criticism with other musicians, composers and songwriters.
We call this process reflect and refresh, a cycle of innovation and constant improvement that is familiar to all at the forefront of the industry. The course is genre agnostic. We support musicians from a wide range of musical fields. They are united both by a common goal and by the fact that they all use technology in some way to make music.
You will start by creating a personal development plan, based on detailed feedback from our team of professional mentors. You will end your course with an impressive portfolio that shows what you are capable of achieving.

On successful conclusion of your course, you will be awarded a Master of Arts degree from the University of Chichester. Your main application must be in by the 1st of the month before your start date. Any supporting portfolio and documentation can be handed in 2 weeks later.
You will mostly be graded on your practical ability. All assignments come with written write-ups where you will detail your approach. Each module will have at least one 'Formative' assignment, which is considered research and practice for the final 'Summative' assignment, which will be your final grade for that module. All Summative assignments are marked at least twice.

We are not aware of any academic requirements for this programme.
Applicants are required to have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in any subject. A limited number of places are available for non-degree holders (see the ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ section). We assume that completion of an undergraduate degree shows the applicant has the required level of academic ability to complete the course. Where applicants have been out of education for some time or come from a very different discipline, we can provide additional support through one to one tutorials during their course.
Students will need a relatively capable computer (Mac or PC). It will need to be able to run your DAW as well as have strong audio/MIDI recording capabilities. We typically recommend absolutely no less than a quad-core processor with 8-16GB of RAM.
You will also need monitoring headphones or speakers. We also recommend an external audio interface and a MIDI keyboard.
