Overview
The Dental Surgery - Periodontology program at the University of Sharjah gives the participant an extensive knowledge and skills in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and conditions of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth and implants. This includes the maintenance of health, function and aesthetics of these structures and tissues, as well as implant site development and their surgical placement and restoration.
The resident in this 3-year master program attains comprehensive knowledge in Periodontology allowing him/her to examine and evaluate the relevant patient history and clinical conditions and to appropriately design a comprehensive treatment plan, taking into consideration the individual patient needs and expectations. The resident is also trained in the full scope of non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapy, including periodontal plastic- and regenerative surgery.
In addition, the resident acquires training in the full scope of surgical treatment steps for tooth replacement with implants, including the reconstruction – at a certain extent – of the alveolar process, and also regarding the prosthetic rehabilitation of implants, and the management of peri-implant tissue pathology. Finally, the resident is trained in the evaluation and establishment, execution, and monitoring of an individualized maintenance program.

The program goals are to enable students to:
- Make appropriate clinical decisions based on contemporary knowledge in periodontology, implantology and relevant areas.
- Acquire advance clinical skills and investigation techniques at a level of competency for safe practice.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team work for effective patient care.
- Develop and adopt high values in decision making, with contemporary evidence based protocols.
- Practice the highest level of ethics and professionalism.

General requirements
- A BDS degree from University of Sharjah or an equivalent qualification, with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Candidates with GPA of between 2.5 and 2.9 may be given consideration.
- A minimum of one-year post qualification work experience
- English Language requirements: A minimum of 550 on paper based TOEFL or 6.0 on IELTS or its equivalence.
- Applicants must attend an interview session and may be required to sit for a written and/or practical test.
