Overview
Developed in response to demand from students and the academic community, this Islamic Studies (Research) degree provides advanced knowledge and understanding in Islamic studies. Under the guidance of an academic supervisor, you'll research an aspect of Islamic studies that interests you and present your findings in a detailed thesis.
This Islamic studies degree gives you the opportunity to develop expertise in an Islamic studies discipline area, such as Qur'anic studies, Islamic theology, Islamic history, Islamic law, Islamic spirituality and contemporary Islamic studies to gain an understanding of recent developments in the field.
You'll design, use and evaluate research and research methods and develop skills in analysing and synthesising complex information, problems, concepts and theories, as applied to contemporary theological and social problems. You'll also develop valuable academic research skills and present your arguments and research results to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
The Centre for Islamic Sciences and Civilisation (CISAC) is a collaboration between Charles Sturt University and the Islamic Sciences and Research Academy of Australia. CISAC lecturers have a broad spectrum of expertise and are fully engaged in research, putting them in a prime position to support and oversee your research project.

- a Master of Islamic Studies from Charles Sturt University with a Distinction average plus evidence of research; or
- a Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Honours) with Class 1 or Class 2 Division 1 from Charles Sturt University; or
- an award from another accredited tertiary institution, accepted by the Research Advisory Committee as equivalent to one of the above awards, and/or have demonstrated in study or professional performance potential to undertake research at a Master degree level.
