Overview

Applied linguistics generally incorporates several identifiable subfields: for example, corpus linguistics, forensic linguistics, language testing, language policy and planning, lexicography, second language acquisition, second language writing, and translation and interpretation.

Mission

The mission of the Applied Linguistics program at Government College University is to:

Produce knowledge through research on all aspects of linguistics and language use including language teaching, language and business, language and society, language policy, language and the deaf, language and culture, language and law, language and politics etc.
Train students to appreciate the nature of language in general and regional languages in particular, and their role in the development of the society.
Prepare our students to take up prominent roles and provide solutions in all aspects of public life where language expertise in all forms is called for.

General requirements

The candidates must have passed MA/MSc or BS 4-years (minimum 130 credit hours) or equivalent degree in the relevant field from HEC recognized institution with at least 50%marks (Under Annual System) or 2.50 CGPA (Under Semester System) for admission to MS/MPhil programs.

The MPhil candidate have to clear University admission test (60% qualifying marks) or GRE/HAT General or equivalent conducted by HEC with 50% qualifying marks.

The respective Dean/Incharge Faculty will supervise the test and interview as part of admission process.
Candidates working in the Government/Semi Government or Private Institutions shall have to submit “No Objection Certificate” from the concerned organization.
